Jharkhand SIR: Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar has directed district election officials to speed up pending hearings and the digitisation of electoral forms under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The instructions came during a review meeting with District Election Officers and Electoral Registration Officers to assess progress and address delays in the voter list revision process.

The meeting focused on cases involving voters whose details could not be matched with older electoral records, as well as those whose documents contained discrepancies.

Officials were instructed to examine each case carefully and ensure that decisions are based on individual verification of the relevant documents.

Focus on Pending Cases and Digital Processing

The Chief Electoral Officer emphasised the need to accelerate the digitisation of Forms 6, 7 and 8 to ensure timely processing of voter-related applications.

These forms are used for different electoral roll services, including the inclusion of eligible voters, objections to entries and corrections or updates to existing voter records.

Faster digitisation is expected to help officials process applications more efficiently and reduce the backlog.

Officials were also asked to closely monitor pending cases and ensure that procedural requirements are followed during hearings.

Special Camps in Tribal-Dominated Areas

Recognising the challenges faced by residents in tribal-dominated and remote areas, the election machinery has been directed to organise special camps to facilitate the registration of eligible voters.

The initiative aims to ensure that geographical barriers, limited access to administrative offices or difficulties in completing documentation do not prevent eligible citizens from registering as voters.

Special attention will also be given to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, migrant workers and people living in remote villages.

Officials have been instructed to provide necessary assistance to these groups so that they can participate in the electoral roll revision process.

Individual Verification to Ensure Accuracy

During hearings, officials have been directed to examine documents separately in each case before reaching a decision.

This approach is intended to address discrepancies fairly and ensure that cases are not decided without proper verification.

The review of records that cannot be matched with older electoral rolls remains an important part of the exercise.

Authorities will need to assess the available documents and relevant details carefully while handling such cases.

The process is significant for maintaining the accuracy of electoral rolls while ensuring that eligible voters are not unfairly excluded.

Updated SIR Status to Be Reviewed

The updated status of the Special Intensive Revision was scheduled to be shared with recognised political parties at a review meeting on Monday.

The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity to review progress and discuss the status of the ongoing exercise.

With the latest directions, the Jharkhand election authorities are seeking to accelerate pending hearings, improve the digitisation of electoral forms and strengthen voter registration support, particularly in tribal-dominated and remote areas.
