Marang Buru Dhormogad Mahasammelan: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren called for greater unity, social awareness and collective development within tribal communities.

He made the appeal while addressing the Marang Buru Dhormogad Mahasammelan at Madhuban Thana Ground in Pirtand, Giridih district.

The Chief Minister addressed the gathering in the Santhali language.

He highlighted the distinct social and cultural rights of tribal communities.

He also noted that the Indian Constitution recognises these rights.

Soren said tribal communities enjoy special rights in several parts of the country.

Authorities cannot undertake certain activities in these areas without tribal consent and permission.

He congratulated the organisers and participants and appreciated their efforts to strengthen and unite tribal society.

He also assured them of the government’s support for their overall development.

Protecting Marang Buru is a Collective Responsibility

Soren stressed the need to protect Marang Buru Dhormogad.

He described its preservation and care as a moral responsibility for everyone.

He urged community members to work together.

Collective participation and mutual cooperation, he said, remain essential for social progress.

Tribal Society Must Preserve its Cultural Identity

The Chief Minister described tribal communities as India’s oldest social groups.

He said their roots remain strong, although different branches have developed separate identities.

Some community members identify themselves as Hindu, while others follow the Sarna tradition.

Many speak tribal languages alongside Hindi.

Soren highlighted the deep relationship between tribal communities and forests.

He said forests provide livelihoods and hold spiritual significance for tribal people.

“Forests are like God to us,” he said, underlining their importance in tribal life.

Young People Must Understand Their Traditions

The Chief Minister urged young people to understand their traditional customs and rituals.

He also asked them to learn about their community’s historical background.

Referring to his late parents, Dishom Guru Shibu Soren and Rupi Soren, he recalled their traditional death rituals.

Their family recently completed the Dwadasakarma ceremony according to customary practices.

Soren said modern society has made remarkable scientific progress.

Humanity has even reached the Moon. However, tribal communities still face educational and economic challenges.

He called for organised and collective efforts to address these gaps.

The Chief Minister also expressed concern about younger generations moving away from traditional livelihoods.

Agriculture and animal husbandry once supported many tribal families. Today, fewer young people pursue these occupations.

Jharkhand Needs Faster Development

Soren recalled his father Shibu Soren’s significant contribution to the movement for a separate Jharkhand state.

He said the state has completed more than 25 years since its formation. However, Jharkhand still needs substantial development.

He urged people to work together to accelerate the state’s progress.

The Chief Minister also remembered former MLA Sudivya Kumar Sonu.

He said local people had elected Sonu as their representative.

Soren had appointed him a minister to honour the region.

However, fate had other plans, and Sonu passed away.

Soren Warns Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse

The Chief Minister identified substance abuse as a major challenge for tribal society.

He said addiction weakens families and communities.

The state government has launched collective awareness campaigns under the message ‘Nashamukt Jeevan Ho Hamara’.

He also highlighted the Phulo Jhano Ashirwad Yojana.

The scheme helps women involved in selling traditional rice beer, or Handia, and illegal liquor find respectable alternative livelihoods.

The initiative aims to connect these women with self-employment opportunities.

Soren appealed to community members to reject addiction and build a drug-free society.

Government Assures Support to Tribal Community

Soren said the deaths of several people close to him over the past two years had caused him deep personal pain.

He paid tribute to those who had passed away and also assured the gathering that the government would examine the memorandum submitted by the organisers.

He promised all possible assistance to the community on issues that deserve attention and justice.

Leaders and Representatives Attend the Mahasammelan

Several political and community leaders attended the event.

They included MLAs Somesh Soren and Kalpana Soren.

Fagu Besra, Central President of the Marang Buru Bachao Sangharsh Morcha, also attended.

General Secretary Hiralal Manjhi, District President Mahavir Murmu and Secretary Vishnu Kisku joined the gathering.

Representatives from different districts of Jharkhand participated. Tribal representatives from Assam, Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal also attended.

A large number of community members gathered for the conference.
